Black vinyl edition of the Tape Excavation compilation LP limited to 200 numbered copies for sale. This 14-song limited edition vinyl LP was created to accompany the deluxe edition of the Savage Impressions book published by P22 in February 2020. Tape Excavation was compiled by Bruce Licher in early 2019 after scouring through dozens of boxes of cassette tapes from rehearsals, demos, and other recordings to find previously unheard nuggets from his various musical endeavors. Dating from his first recordings for Independent Project Records in 1980 to a rehearsal demo of his current musical endeavor SR2, a collaboration with his wife Karen Nielsen Licher, this compilation contains 14 intriguing windows into the ongoing evolution of Licher’s sound and musical vision.

The Track listing on the limited edition vinyl LP is:

about

BRUCE LICHER - Tundra (solo demo circa 1997)

A year after the Acquatica LP by his group Scenic had been released in 1996, Bruce Licher began to demo new songs for a proposed third album. Wanting to get back to a similar conceptual idea to their first album, Incident At Cima, he began to work on a suite of songs intended to be a soundtrack for the Kaiparowits Plateau in southern Utah. Licher had recently been listening to the Younger Than Yesterday album by The Byrds and was taken by the guitar intro to the song Why and wanted to try incorporating a similar opening to a new song he had been playing around with. Scenic later worked on the song, performing it live several times, and came close to creating a decent full band demo of the track, but for an unfortunate wrong note that Licher played at one point. They always thought they’d get back to re-recording the song, but ended up going in a different direction for their third album.
